ACTIVITIES, events and courses
at the Bradbury Centre in Castleton for July are as follows: Armchair Aerobics, Mondays at 3.15pm; Technogym, Mondays at 4.15pm and 6.15pm, Wednesdays 6.15pm and 7.30pm; Games Night (cards, dominoes, etc), Mondays, 7pm; Bingo for Fun, Thursdays, 2pm; Pizza Night (eat in or take out), Thursdays; Booking for all events is strongly recommended (01287) 669357.

EVENTS at the Bradbury Centre for September: 6 September, local history meeting; 10 September, six-week fun course of Spanish for beginners, 9.30-11.30am; 10 September, star party, looking at the night sky through telescopes, at Westerdale Village Hall at 8pm; 13 September, dressmaking for beginners, 9.15am; 14 September, six-week course in oil painting, 1.30pm; 17 September, introduction to genealogy, 7.30pm; 24 September, starter session to learn how to make rag rugs, 1.30pm, with further sessions on following Fridays; 18-25 September, Art Club 4 Kids. CASTLETON Show is on Saturday 11 September on Castleton cricket field. The showfield opens at noon, tents open at 1pm and all exhibits to be staged by 10.30am. The show will include pony sports, a terrier show, lurcher show, craft stalls, classic and vintage cars and motorcycles, a motorcycle trials display, mini football tournament and a tug of war. Music will be provided by the Downe and Outs Jazz Band. Schedules available from the Secretary, Mrs L Raw (01287) 660409 as well as local shops. Entries by Monday 6 September. Admission £2.50 (including car park), concessions £1.
WORLD'S Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support is from 10am-noon on Friday 17 September at the Showroom, Champion's Garage. There will be a cake stall, gifts, cards, produce and a raffle. Donations of cakes, jams, chutneys, marmalade and raffle prizes very welcome. For details ring Joyce on (01287) 660203.

CLUBS
THE Esk Valley Youth Group meets from 6.30-8.30pm in the youth club premises in Castleton Chapel. There are various activities including quizzes, table tennis, films and games. Additional
volunteers always welcome.
OLDER residents are invited to a keep fit class every Friday from 10.30-11.15am in Castleton Village Hall. There is an exercise programme to suit varied abilities and ends with a cup of tea and a biscuit. The cost is £1.50 per session.
TAI Chi and Chi Gung on Tuesdays at 7.30pm in the village hall, suitable for all ages, no prior knowledge necessary, wear loose clothing, £5 per class. Further details from Sandie on (01287) 669101.
THE Dalesmen Singers is always willing to welcome prospective new members both tenor and basses. Rehearsals are in Danby Methodist Chapel on Tuesday evenings 7.30-9.30pm. Call Steve Maltby on 841000.
THE Catherine Harland Webster School of Dance has classes in Castleton Village Hall every Friday night after school. For details ring 897761.
ESK Moors Caring is offering the following Looked after Leisure activities at the new Abbeyfield Bradbury Centre in Castleton during April. Technogym Mondays 4pm and Wednesdays 7.30pm; armchair aerobics Mondays 2.45pm; Tai Chi Mondays 10.30-11.15am for six weeks; flower arranging Friday 3 April at 2pm; cinema and soup, 7.30pm on the last Saturday of the month; matinee and muffins, a repeat performance from the month before with afternoon tea, 1.30pm on the last Wednesday of the month; home-made greetings cards, Tuesdays 2-3pm; Yesterdays – nostalgia and chat, Mondays 10.30am; games night (cards, scrabble, dominoes, etc), Mondays 7pm.
