IN response to the front page of Friday’s Gazette (19 April).
Capt Estill was asked by the coroner as to what legislation was in place relating to life-saving equipment, radios etc, for vessels going out to sea.
While I agree it was a tragedy, I was relieved none of the very brave and courageous crew of the lifeboat lost their lives doing their duty.
Of the three people who died, one had cannabis in his system and one had cocaine in his. There is legislation about drug taking, which they chose to ignore.
More legislation will lead us towards a nanny state – people have to take responsibility for their actions.
As we see every day, there is no way the current laws can be enforced so introducing more seems a totally pointless waste of money, time and effort.
