Published Date: 15 July 2008
I have been sat in my back garden on the lovely evenings and weekends we've had.
A group of young lads have been out playing cricket on a field where they’ve played since they were little, along with many others, just having fun, playing football, rounders etc and not roaming the streets getting into bother.

Now the council wa
nts to sell this land too – where will they go then?

Where will their future children play?

If the council gets its way Whitby will have no green space left.

Yes, we are desperate for affordable housing for local people, but why not make the town bigger by building on the outskirts.

A better and safer option than turning our estates into concrete jungles, leaving our children no option than to roam the streets.

I thought councillors were there to represent the people and do what’s best for the town, but time and time again people are let down.

Our concerns and what we would like for the town and its future are ignored.

If the council take away our children’s play areas they will be solving a housing problem short-term and creating a far greater one for the future of Whitby.
