KIND-HEARTED children at Egton Primary School thought of others less fortunate than themselves when they performed a musical – and donated half the proceeds to a children's charity.
All the school’s 38 children took part in Alice the Musical, based on the well-known story of Alice in Wonderland and 27 of them had speaking parts.

There were 20 songs in the show and 13 of the children sang solos while each child took five different roles including several who became a caterpillar.

Headteacher Liz Orland said: “The children themselves decided they would donate half of the proceeds to the NSPCC because they said not every child lives in a wonderland and they also decided the RSPB should have the other half because they don’t want any other birds to become extinct like the dodo.

“We had tremendous support from all the local community and the children’s performances were fabulous.”

Kate Fenton played the organ – which the children dubbed the magic machine – while Margaret Bennett, Carolyn Freeman and Eva Everitt made the costumes.

Refreshments, including jam tarts, another feature of the story, were served by the school governors and members of the Friends of Egton School.
