A LENGTHY loss of electricity supply affected four villages in the Upper Esk Valley yesterday.
A total of 760 households and businesses in Ainthorpe, Lealholm, Danby and Glaisdale lost their power supply at 2.14am on Monday.

By 4.34am power was restored to 450 of them and to another 184 by 5.19am.

But at 10.30am a spokesman for the suppliers, Northern Electrics Distribution Ltd said that 120 customers were still without electricity and the firm was waiting for two large generators to be brought into the area to supply them while the repairs could be completed.

The spokesman said the loss of supply was due to an underground cable fault which was being investigated.

The area has suffered a number of power cuts in the four months since the beginning of the year but they had previously been said to be caused by bad weather.
