Malton 0 Danby 2
DANBY Hockey Club ladies travelled to Malton for a rearranged fixture.

As expected, the teams were closely matched but as the away side settled into the game, they took the edge and began to pass the ball well and create chances.

The first goa
l was a powerful strike.

Following a short corner, the referee played a good advantage in the circle. Danby passed the ball back out to the edge of the D, for Kath Hoggarth to confidently collect and place.

Rosie Welford adapted well to an unfamiliar position, persistently tackling and maintaining possession to push the ball forward, allowing Debbie Callaghan to carry the ball down the wing and send in a precise cross. A well-positioned Cath Whignell lost her marker and met the cross to make the half-time score 2-0.

Malton remained in the game, keeping the attackers at bay with determined close man marking in their area.

Danby had some defending to do too – Nikki Graham had an outstanding game, constantly winning the ball and switching it to put Danby back on the offensive.

Julie Stainthorpe narrowly missed the post.

Christine Lillie worked well in defence to keep a key Malton attacker out of the game, ensuring another clean sheet.

Player of the match was divided between three players – an indication of another good team effort – Nikki Graham, Rosie Welford and Christine Lillie.
